The Region
Lake County storage is a seasonal problem
People here call it The Region. It is the northwest corner of Indiana, pressed up against the Illinois line, where Lake County towns like Hammond, Munster and Highland run straight into Chicagoland, and the rest of the county spreads south toward Crown Point.
The houses are all different ages and all fight the same calendar. Lake effect snow puts the salt bags, the shovels and the snowblower out front by October. The patio furniture, the cushions and the grill cover come in behind them. Then the holiday bins come out of wherever they were stacked, and nothing ever goes back in quite the same place. Four times a year the garage and the basement get reshuffled, and a little more of the floor goes missing.
That rotation is the whole reason this business exists. I build garage shelving, basement shelving, utility room shelving and wall-mounted and heavy-duty shelving into the walls you already have: 2x4 ledgers anchored into the studs, front uprights carried to the floor, plywood decks, sized to the bins you already own. Most jobs go in and get done in a day.

What the houses are like where you live
Every town here stores things a little differently, because every town was built in a different decade. This is what I plan around before I ever pick up a tape measure.
Munster, Indiana
Munster is home. I live here, so a lot of my work is a few minutes from the house. The housing stock runs from mid-century ranches on the older streets to newer builds further south, which means I see everything from tight basements with low ductwork to wide open unfinished ones.

Highland sits right next door and a lot of it went up in the post-war years: ranches, split levels, and detached garages built for a smaller car than the one parked in there now. Those garages have solid framing and a lot of unused wall above shoulder height. That wall is usually where the bins should have been all along.

Dyer skews newer. Plenty of these subdivisions came with deep unfinished basements and two or three car attached garages, which is a lot of blank wall and a lot of poly-wrapped insulation. A basement like that takes a long floor-to-ceiling run better than almost any other house in the county.

Schererville has large newer subdivisions and three car garages are common here. The third bay is usually the one that quietly stopped holding a car. It is also usually the easiest room in the house to hand back to you, and most of them are a one day job.

Griffith is older and denser than the towns around it, with smaller lots and narrower basements. Shelving here is a measuring job: work around the stairs, the mechanicals and the low ductwork, then use the height you actually have. Depth gets traded for tiers, and it works.

St. John has some of the newest construction in Lake County, with deep unfinished basements and three car garages on bigger lots. If you just moved in and the boxes never left the basement, this is the best possible time to build. Nothing is finished, the studs are open, and the wall is right there.

Crown Point covers a lot of ground: older homes near the square, then subdivisions out toward the edges. The older houses have basements with plenty of character and not much straight wall, while the newer builds have straight wall for days. Both work. They just get drawn differently.

Hammond has the oldest and densest housing in my service area, block after block of Chicago style bungalows. Those basements are narrower, the joists sit lower, and the stairs are tight, so the shelving gets built to the room instead of to a catalog size. Narrower and taller usually wins here.

Merrillville is a mix of 1970s and 1980s ranches and split levels plus newer construction further out. The attached garage here is often the main storage room for the whole house, which means the shelves have to take real weight. Ledgers into studs, uprights to the floor, plywood decks.

Which towns do you serve?
Munster, Highland, Dyer, Schererville, Griffith, St. John, Crown Point, Hammond and Merrillville, plus the towns in between them. It is all Lake County, Indiana, and it is all a short drive from home.
What if my town is not on the list?
Ask anyway. If you are close to that list, the answer is usually yes. It costs you one quick call to find out, and there is no visit involved either way.
Do you have to come out to my house to give me a price?
No. The estimate is a video call. You show me the space on your phone, give me rough measurements, and I price it right there. The first time I am in your house is the day I build the shelves.
Does my town change the price?
